March 24, 2002

Box Score

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team seemed to have things working in the first game, scoring four runs in the first two innings and holding on for a 4-2 win, but couldn't stop the bats for Saint Mary's in the second game as the Gaels won 6-2.

The first game started when Tiffany Goudy grounded out to the shortstop sending Joann Figueroa home in the bottom of the first inning. Danielle Touhey singled down the right-field line in the second earning the RBI with Kelcy Murphy scoring. Kellie Nordhagen kept the scoring drive alive with a triple to center field sending Touhey home. Figueroa continued the run with a single to left field giving Nordhagen the score.

Korin Gregory was credited with the win, giving up three hits in four innings of work in the circle. Fellow Aztec Bre DeSanta earned her third save of the season giving up one hit in the final two innings of the game.

The Gaels seemed unstoppable at the plate in the beginning of the second game registering three hits and two runs in the first inning and 13 hits in the game. The Aztecs answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. The runs were scored off the bat of Goudy with a single that sent Janna Kovensky and Figueroa home.

The Aztecs couldn't seem to get things going after that and lost 6-2 to the Gaels of Saint Mary's.

All four Aztecs hurlers saw action in the final game. Jeni Tornquist took the start, but Jessi Green was credited with the loss giving up one run in 1.2 innings of work.

State will look to rebound in a single game with UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
