SAN DIEGO - The 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech women's tennis team stayed-off two team-match points to defeat 44th-ranked San Diego State Monday afternoon at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
The Aztec loss snapped a 10-match homecourt win streak dating back to last season.
San Diego State claimed the doubles point, winning in number one and two doubles. The 52nd-ranked doubles team of Lindsey Hedberg and Silvia Tornier defeated Georgia Tech's Mysti Morris and Sekita Grant 9-8 in number one doubles. The Aztec duo of Katja Karrento and Katalina Romero claimed victory at number two doubles, 8-3.
Four of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets. The Aztecs received victories at number one singles by 72nd-ranked Silvia Tornier and Katey Becker at number six singles. The Yellow Jackets claimed straight-set wins at number three, four and a three-set victory at number five singles. That tied the match at three apiece.
In number two singles, Georgia Tech's Jaime Wong, the 52nd-ranked singles player, fought off two-match points and recorded a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Lindsey Hedberg to claim the victory for the Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech improves to 9-2 on the season while the Aztecs are now 5-5. San Diego State will be back in action on March 13 when the Aztecs play host to 16th-ranked Southern California.
