SAN DIEGO - The 53rd-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team upset 17th-ranked Notre Dame, 5-2, on Friday at SDSU Courts. The win moves the Aztecs to 6-6 on the season and snapped a four-match losing streak.

Notre Dame jumped to an early lead, winning the doubles point 2-1. SDSU's lone win in doubles came courtesy of the No. 2 pair of Katja Karrento and Katalina Romero, which defeated the Irish's Katie Cunha and Nina Vaughan, 8-6.

SDSU rebounded, however, with wins at No. 1-5 singles, four of which were taken in straight sets. Lindsey Hedberg won at No. 2 (6-3, 6-0), Karrento at No. 3 (6-3, 6-2), Romero at No. 4 (6-3, 6-2) and Katey Becker at No. 5 (6-3, 6-4).

The Aztec win at No. 1 singles was more hard fought, with Silvia Tornier winning in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (6).

SDSU returns to the court on March 19 (Tues.) for a 2 p.m. home match with Kansas State.
