FRESNO, Calif. - The 2002 Hedrick's Hallowell Chevrolet Classic ended on a somewhat bittersweet note for the Aztecs. State lost to No. 10 Fresno State 3-0 in the final game, but won the tournament title anyway.
San Diego State stayed on top of things with a strong defense in the first two innings, but the Bulldogs scored two runs in the third and the final in the top of the sixth to beat the Aztecs for the second time this season.
Sophomore Janna Kovensky earned all-tournament honors and was 1-for-2 at the plate against the Bulldogs. Sarah Hershman knocked the other hit going 1-for-2 at the plate as well.
Freshman Bre DeSanta gave up six hits and one earned run in 6.1 innings of work. Jeni Tornquist finished the final inning facing two batters.
The Aztecs have a short break before making the trip north to play UC Riverside on Wednesday, Mar. 13. The teams will play in a doubleheader that will begin at 1 p.m.
