SAN DIEGO - The third-ranked Stanford women's tennis team disposed of 44th-ranked San Diego State 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif.
The Cardinal, which features three of the top 15 college singles players and has four of its starting six players ranked in the ITA national singles rankings improved to 10-1. The Aztecs, which lost to 15th-ranked California on Friday, fell to 5-4 overall.
With two of the top eight rated doubles team, Stanford cruised to the doubles point by winning all three matches by a cumulative score of 24-8. The second-ranked team of Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra of Stanford defeated the 52nd-ranked duo of Lindsey Hedberg and Silvia Tornier, 8-0, in number one doubles.
In singles, the Aztecs pushed sets to 6-5 in three different matches, but were unable to pull out a set. In number one singles, 72nd-ranked Silvia Tornier suffered a 6-3, 7-5 loss to 11th-ranked Lauren Kalvaria. In number two singles, 15th-ranked Erin Burdette of Stanford got pass Lindsey Hedberg 6-1, 7-5.
The Aztecs will be back in action on Monday when the Aztecs play host to Georgia Tech. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the SDSU Tennis Courts.
