SAN DIEGO - The 15th-ranked California women's tennis team won two three-set matches en route to a 6-1 victory over 44th-ranked San Diego State on Friday afternoon in Berkeley, Calif.

The Aztecs, which had a three-match winning streak snapped in the defeat, fell to 5-3 overall while the Bears improved to 6-1 on the campaign.

California claimed the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches. In a matchup of nationally ranked doubles teams, 46th-ranked Raquel Kops-Jones teamed with Jody Scheldt to defeat 52nd-ranked Lindsey Hedberg and Silvia Tornier, 8-6.

Although the Bears claimed five of six singles matches, they needed three sets to claim two of the singles matches. In the best match of the day, 40th-ranked Kops-Jones of California defeated 72nd-ranked Silvia Tornier, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in number one singles.
