SAN DIEGO (AP) - Al Faux sank five 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead San Diego State to an 84-71 win over New Mexico on Thursday night.
Randy Holcomb added 19 points for the Aztecs (17-11, 6-7 Mountain West), who relied on three-point shooting down the stretch to overcome a 60-53 Lobo lead midway through the second half.
San Diego State outscored New Mexico 31-11 in the final 9:41, including a key four-minute stretch when the Aztecs went on a 14-2 spurt to ignite the home crowd and take over the game.
New Mexico (16-11, 6-7) led 40-28 late in the first half the Aztecs pulled within one at 43-42 with 16:43 to play.
The Lobos ended the Aztec run with six consecutive points and seemed poised for the victory, but the Aztecs came back, converting turnovers into transition buckets and sinking several crucial three-pointers.
Ruben Douglas scored 20 points and Eric Chatfield 19 for the Lobos, who held a 31-27 rebound edge.
The Aztecs had beaten the New Mexico 78-65 earlier in the season, a win that ended a streak of 10 straight Lobo wins against San Diego State.
