Aztec Water Polo Drowns Michigan, 8-5

SAN DIEGO - The Aztecs left home with an 8-5 win over the Michigan Wolverines today at Bud Kearns Pool. State begins a two-week road trip that begins Saturday at UC Irvine.

Casey Finnegan led the Aztecs with a 60-percent shooting performance over the Wolverines. Finnegan scored three goals in five attempts and totaled one steal. Junior Amber Prestegard and sophomore Holly Hartzell each scored two goals in the contest.

Time in the cage was split between team captain Heather Stiles and Ashley Zabel. Stiles played 21 minutes and recorded eight saves as well as a steal. Zabel played the final seven minutes with four saves.

The Aztecs will play at UC Irvine and the University of the Redlands on Saturday at noon and 1:30 p.m., respectively. From there, State will take a short trip north to face Long Beach State on Sunday at noon.
