MALIBU, Calif. - The 39th-ranked San Diego State men's tennis team continued its tour of the nation's best tennis teams on Friday, losing to 10th-ranked Pepperdine 6-1 at Ralph-Straus Tennis Center on the Pepperdine campus.
SDSU's lone win of the day came by way of Ryan Redondo in No. 5 singles. Redondo defeated Pepperdine's Sebastien Graeff, 6-1, 6-1.
Play at No. 2 singles was close with the Waves' Stefan Suter defeated the Aztecs' Felix Hardt, 7-6, 7-5. After being defeated in the first set of No. 1 singles, SDSU's Oliver Maiberger rallied to a 6-2 win in the second set only to drop the third, 6-2. The Aztecs' Gabe Coren also spoiled a straight-set victory in No. 6 singles winning the middle set, 6-4.
The loss drops SDSU to 3-5 on the year and gives them a mark of 1-5 this season against teams ranked in the top 10. The lone win came in the ITA/USTA National Indoor Championships against eighth-ranked SMU.
SDSU will get little rest, returning to San Diego to face 75th-ranked UC Irvine on Saturday at noon. All home meets are held at SDSU Courts.
