FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Al Faux scored 24 points and Tony Bland added 23 points and eight rebounds to lead San Diego State to its first victory in Fort Collins in 20 years with a 75-63 win over Colorado State Saturday.
Faux was 7-for-8 from the field, and 8-for-10 from the free throw line for San Diego State (15-10, 4-6 Mountain West Conference). Bland was 10-for-14 for the Aztecs.
Brian Greene scored all 14 of his points in the second half for Colorado State (10-14, 1-8). Matt Williams and Matt Nelson had 12 and 10 points respectively as the Rams lost at home to San Diego State for the first time since Jan. 23, 1982.
The Aztecs held Colorado State scoreless over the final 5:27 of the first half to lead 28-20. Bland beat the buzzer with a jump shot to complete an 8-0 run after Nelson tied the game at 20-20 with a 10-foot jumper.
Colorado State closed to within 37-30 on Andy Birley's jumper four minutes into the second half, but Bland's 3-pointer and layup pushed the San Diego State lead back to double figures, 42-30.
Baskets by Nelson and Joe Macklin cut the deficit to 62-55 with 1:48 left, but Faux converted 8-of-10 free throws and Bland converted a three-point play in the final 1:41 for San Diego State.
