Two Aztecs Named to Academic All-MWC Football Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- - The Mountain West Conference has named two San Diego State Aztecs to its academic all-conference football team. Quarterback Lon Sheriff and punter Brian Simnjanovski are each named to the team for the second consecutive year.

Simnjanovski, a junior from Escondido, finished the season 21st nationally with an average of 43.6 yards per punt, including a season-best of 64 yards at Colorado State.

The liberal studies major carries a 3.53 grade point average and was recently named to the Verizon Academic All-American Team. He was also named to the Ray Guy Award watch list, which is presented to the nation's top punter.

Sheriff, an English major, carries a 3.55 GPA. The junior from Santee finished the season with 1,295 passing yards and three touchdowns.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, student athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor.
