SDSU Women's Tennis Plays WSU Close

Feb. 3, 2002

SEATTLE - The 44th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team evened its record at 2-2 on Sunday, losing to 29th-ranked Washington State, 4-3, in a neutral site match at the Nordstrom Tennis Center on the Washington campus.

SDSU came on strong with a sweep of doubles play. The Aztecs' 60th-ranked duo of Lindsey Hedberg and Silvia Tornier upset WSU's 22nd-ranked tandem of Erica Perkins and Stacy McKenna, 8-5. The SDSU teams of Katja Karrento and Katalina Romero and Indra Erichsen and Julie Chidley took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

Tonier kept the momentum for SDSU taking No. 1 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, from Perkins. The Aztec run stopped there however, with the Cougars sweeping No. 2 through No. 5 singles. SDSU's Julie Chidley bested WSU's Zorana Roganovic, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 6.

SDSU continues its schedule with three straight home contests starting with Oregon on Feb. 10. That match is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. at SDSU Courts.
