Jan. 16, 2002

Gold, Coast,Australia - San Diego State's final game with Queensland on the first leg of its 10-game Australian tour, was postponed Wednesday due to inclement weather. A number of storm cells passed through the Gold Coast area, essentially making the field at Palm Meadows unplayable. The teams will attempt to play the final game of their series Thursday evening (Jan. 16) at 7:00 p.m.

The Aztecs have won three of the previous four contests against the Rams, and are 4-1 overall including their victory over the Brisbane All-Stars. Through those five contests, SDSU is hitting .321 with a team earned run average of 2.31.

Individual hitting leaders include Anthony Gwynn (.538, 6 runs, 4 steals) and Carlo Cota (.462, four doubles, five RBIs). A total of 24 of the Aztecs'53 hits have gone for extra bases. Included in that number are six home runs by five players, led by Chad Corona's two.

The pitching staff, meanwhile, has recorded 45 strikeouts in 39 innings and has limited the opposition to a .180 batting average. The team strikeout leader is sophomore Drew Jenson, who has recorded eight K's in four innings of work.

Thursday night's game will be broadcast live on the internet beginning at 1:00 a.m. Thursday morning in San Diego.
