COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Tricia Gutierrez has been selected as the Mountain West Conference women's indoor track and field athlete of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Gutierrez secured her first career athlete of the week award by the setting the indoor school record in the pole vault at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., this past weekend. Gutierrez vaulted a personal best 3.90 meters (12-09.50) to claim the record and qualify provisionally for the 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships. The senior surpassed the previous best of 12-07.50 that she set last season.
The Aztecs continue their indoor season at the Bill Cosby Invitational on Feb. 2 in Reno.
