COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior forward Randy Holcomb has been named the Mountain West Conference men's basketball player of the week, the league office announced Monday. This is Holcomb's first player of the week award this season and third of his career. He is the third Aztec to receive the honor this season.
Holcomb, from Chicago, Ill., shot 75 percent from the field (24-of-32) and averaged a double-double last week (25.5 and 12.5 rebounds) as the Aztecs posted a 1-1 record. He has a league leading nine double-doubles on the season, 15 in his career and has recorded a MWC-tying three straight entering Monday's contest at Utah. The nine double-doubles this season rank him ninth nationally. He is also listed 20th nationally in rebound, averaging 9.9 per game.
In the Aztecs' 82-79 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Holcomb grabbed 14 rebounds and tied a career-high with 30 points. He hit 14-of-18 shots from the field, while blocking three shots and recording three steals. The win at Corpus Christi was SDSU's third away from home this season, eclipsing its road/neutral win total over the previous three seasons (2-33). Against BYU, Holcomb scored 21 points and recorded 11 rebounds in the 75-64 SDSU loss. He went 10-of-14 from the floor in 35 minutes of action.
