Dec 31, 2001

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Randy Holcomb and Al Faux scored 16 points each Monday as San Diego State rebounded from its loss at top-ranked Duke with a 75-59 win over Columbia.

The Aztecs (8-4), beaten 92-79 by the Blue Devils on Saturday, broke a school Division I record with their 11th straight win over a non-conference opponent.

Faux helped San Diego State pull away from its Ivy League opponents in the second half, scoring eight points in a 19-6 run that gave the Aztecs a 58-41 lead.

Columbia (7-6), playing its fifth road game in 15 days, cut San Diego State's lead to nine points twice after that, but that was as close as the Lions would get.

Columbia lost for the 17th time in its last 20 road games.

Holcomb also grabbed nine rebounds and Tony Bland added 13 points for the Aztecs, who shot 52.7 percent from the field.

The Aztecs, who led 35-29 at halftime, were ahead 43-35 when they forced three straight five-second inbound violations. Faux's 3-pointer with 15:41 remaining made it 50-37, and the lead was increased to 17 points four minutes later.

Craig Austin scored 19 points to move into fifth place on Columbia's career scoring list with 1,271 points. Austin made 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
