HONOLULU (AP) - Al Faux scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half Friday night to rally San Diego State to a 61-58 victory over Hawaii.

The Aztecs (6-3) trailed for most of the game, and it wasn't until Faux's basket with 5:33 left that they took the lead for the first time. Randy Holcomb also helped San Diego State's cause with 13 points, nine down the stretch, and 11 rebounds.

Hawaii (6-2) led by as much as 13 points in the first half, but could not sustain the advantage. Carl English finished with 14 points, with Haim Shimonovich adding 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Rainbow Warriors led 41-32 midway through the second half, but a 8-0 run, with Tony Bland starting it with a pair of baskets, put San Diego State ahead for good.

Hawaii managed to get to within two points on three occasions in the final 2:22, but could not catch the Aztecs.

Predrag Savovic, making his first appearance of the season, scored 12 points for the Rainbow Warriors, but was 2-of-13 from the field, including 1-for-6 from long distance. He was suspended by the NCAA for playing in a European league with professional players.

The Aztecs, who scored 93 points in upsetting Fresno State last week, were 5-for-11 from behind the 3-point line, compared with 1-for-12 for Hawaii.
