SDSU Women's Tennis Advance Three to Quarterfinals of Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team advanced three players to quarterfinal action in the first day of the Aztec Tennis Invitational at the SDSU Courts.

The tournament's top three seeds, San Diego State's Silvia Tornier, Lindsey Hedberg and Katey Karrento, advanced to the final eight without dropping a set on Friday. Tara Livesay of San Diego also advanced to the quarterfinal round giving the two San Diego schools half of the remaining singles bracket.

"It was a good first day for us," San Diego State head coach Peter Mattera said. "We have three players in the quarterfinals and two doubles teams remaining. We are looking good. The top three seeds played very well today."

The Aztecs top two doubles teams of Tornier-Hedberg and Julie Chidley-Katey Becker both received a bye into the quarterfinal round.

Action continues tomorrow at the SDSU courts beginning at 9 a.m.
