SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Oliver Maiberger will be the third seed at the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which opens Thursday at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas.
Maiberger, who became the first Aztec player to claim the singles and doubles regional championship in the same season last month, will compete in the 32-player singles bracket. He will team with Ryan Redondo in the 16-team doubles field.
The Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship, the second-leg of the college grand slam, will conclude with the doubles champion crowned on Saturday and the singles title awarded on Sunday. Last month, Maiberger advanced to the quarterfinal round of the ITA All-American Championship, the first leg of the grand slam, played in Stone Mountain, Ga.
Maiberger, ranked 13th nationally in the preseason singles ratings, will learn his opponent on Wednesday when the draw is announced. Singles and doubles play begins on Thursday.
