Box Score

Freshmen Annie Klotovich and Gina Salinas both waited until the final game of the regular season to open their goal-scoring accounts at SDSU, but it was worth the wait as their efforts led the Aztecs to a 3-2 win over UNLV in Las Vegas Saturday evening.

With the win, SDSU upped its overall mark to 6-10-1 and finished their Mountain West season with a record of 2-3-1. UNLV, meanwhile, dropped to 10-6-2 overall and an even 3-3-0 in league play, finishing tied for third in the final standings.

The Rebels got on the board first when UNLV leading scorer Anita Pedford headed in a free kick from teammate Cristyn Enea in the 36th minute. They doubled their advantage at the 50:06 mark, this time with Enea finishing off a through ball from Kelly Oshay.

In SDSU's previous 16 contests, the Aztecs had been unable to come back to win after being down in the second half. Enter Klotovich and Salinas.

Seven minutes after the Rebels notched their second goal, Klotovich got the Aztecs on the board by knocking in a corner kick from senior forward Kim Rogers. From there, SDSU took control of the game, but had to wait until the 76th minute to find the tying goal when Salinas was on hand to knocked a dropped save by UNLV goalie Alice Gleason.

Almost four minutes later, Klotovich scored the game winner, taking a pass from Danielle Small on the left side and shooting past Gleason.

The Aztecs outshot the Rebels 18-12 as UNLV's Gleason was the busier of the two keepers with nine saves. SDSU's Linnea Quinones recorded five stops while notching her fourth win of the year.

As the No. 5 seed for the upcoming MWC Tournament in Las Vegas, San Diego State will face fourth-seeded Utah in the opening round on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 1:00 p.m. In other first-round games, number-two seed New Mexico will meet No. 7 Air Force at 4:00 p.m. while No. 3 UNLV will face No. 6 Wyoming at 7:00 p.m. As regular season champion, Brigham Young receives a bye in the first round.
