EL PASO, Texas - San Diego State junior Lars Johannson carded a 36-hole total of even-par 142 to close out the opening day of competition tied for ninth place at the 27th Annual Savane College All-America Golf Classic Monday at the par-71 El Paso Country Club.
Johannson, the 2000-01 Mountain West Conference golfer of the year and an honorable mention All-American, entered the second round tied for fifth after shooting a 4-under 67 during the morning session, but was unable to maintain the pace during his afternoon round.
Toledo's Brad Heaven and Clemson's D.J. Trahan both finished up at 10-under par 132 to lead the 24-player field. Defending champion Ricky Barnes of Arizona shot 1-over 143 and is tied for 15th.
The Savane College All-America Golf Classic concludes Tuesday with the third and final round. Johannson will be the first golfer to tee off when play resumes at 7:30 a.m. (MST).
