SDSU Men's Soccer Loses to No. 15 USD

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's soccer team (7-9-4) closed its 2001 season with a 4-2 loss to 15th-ranked University of San Diego (12-3-1) on Sunday at the SDSU Sports Deck.

USD took a 3-2 lead at the 76:04 mark when an Aztec defender knocking in a cross by the Toreros' Eric Wunderle, the score was credited as an own goal to SDSU. USD had tied the score at 59:27 when Ryan Coiner connected on a cross from Noah Manning. Matt McCausland chipped in an insurance for the Toreros with four seconds left in regulation.

SDSU opened the day's scoring at the 11:35 mark when Eric Wohl finished a header from Patrick Strait. Strait's header came off a throw in by Michael Sanchez who was also credited with an assist.

The score would stay 1-0 in favor of the Aztecs until 50:57 when USD's Wunderle found the net.

SDSU's Wohl scored another, this time on an assist from Abraham Martinez at 52:49 but the Aztecs' scoring would end there.

USD's Justin Neerhoff spent all 90 minutes in goal recording two saves and the win. SDSU's Tim Edwards also went the distance in net being credited with five saves.

Sunday was senior day for three Aztecs, with Edwards, Aaron Frimkess and Enrique Tovar being honored in a special pregame ceremony.

The seven wins this season for SDSU is its most since 1998 when the program went 8-11-1.
