SDSU Swimmers Set Three Season Bests In Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The San Diego State swimming and diving team came away from this weekend's road trip to Utah with three season-best times. The Aztecs moved to 3-2 in dual meet competition this season after losing to Utah, 166-120, on Saturday and Brigham Young, 150-91, on Friday.

Saturday's competition saw the Aztecs place first in six swimming events, two of which came in relays. SDSU took the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.81 and the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.95.

Senior Meghan Casillan won her seventh event of the year, clocking a time of 58.71 in the 100 backstroke. Other Aztecs to post wins Saturday were sophomore Megan Storey in the 1,000 free (10:25.71), freshman Erin Whalen in the 200 butterfly (2:11.64) and senior Tara Johnson in the 100 fly (59.38).

Junior Erin Kilpatrick set a season best in the 100 free with a second-place time of 54.21.

In Friday's competition with BYU, Storey and Kilpatrick earned two top finishes apiece. Storey swam to a time of 10:22.47 in the 1,000 free and a time of 5:06.07 in the 500 free. Kilpatrick took top honors in the 200 fly (2:10.57) and 200 free (1:56.49).

SDSU picked up another top finish in the 200 backstroke with Casillan's season-best time of 2:06.92. Senior Heather DeFelice logged another season-best mark for the Aztecs, finishing in second with a time of 24.54 in the 50 free.

SDSU will take next weekend off from competition for the Thanksgiving holiday. The team hits the pool again on Nov. 29 for the three-day UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas.
