SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Silvia Tornier advanced to the singles and doubles championships by winning four matches on Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Invitational.
Tornier, the top-seed in singles, will play Cheryl Mallaiah of Kansas for the singles title at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Then, she will team with junior Lindsey Hedberg to play Kristen and Courtney Steinbock of Kansas for the doubles title.
"We're very excited to be playing for both the singles and doubles championships," San Diego State head coach Peter Mattera said. "Silvia played very well and we hope she can continue her run to bring us a couple of titles."
Tornier had little trouble on Saturday, winning her quarterfinal match in a default and advancing through the semifinal round with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over teammate Katey Karrento.
On the doubles side, the top-seeded team of Tornier and Hedberg advanced with an 8-3 quarterfinal victory against Mallaiah and Paige Brown of Kansas. The duo advanced to the championship match with an 8-6 victory over Loyola Marymount's Penka Fileva and Andrea Lord.
