SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior running back Larry Ned, who enters Saturday's game at Utah second nationally in rushing, has been named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's top running back.
The list of candidates for the award was trimmed from 47 to eight semifinalists on Thursday. The field will be cut to three finalists on Nov. 27th, and the winner will be announced Dec. 6th on ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The award will be officially presented Jan. 29th in Dallas.
The Doak Walker Award is presented by the SMU Athletic Forum.
Ned is averaging 140.11 yards per contest and 5.2 yards per rush. He has already run for 1,261 yards this season. Ned joins Anthony Davis of Wisconsin, DeShaun Foster of UCLA, Ennis Haywood of Iowa State, Leonard Henry of East Carolina, Bruce Perry of Maryland, Luke Staley of Brigham Young and Travis Stephens of Tennessee as semifinalists.
The 2000 winner was LaDainian Tomlinson of TCU, now a rookie with the San Diego Chargers.
