Spikers Beat Rebels, 3-1

Oct. 5, 2001

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State volleyball team seemed to get back on track with its 3-1 win over UNLV tonight at Peterson Gym. The Aztecs hit a .342, the best percentage since their .347 performance at New Mexico on September 22nd. The Aztecs defeated the Rebels in games of 30-17, 30-25, 28-30, 30-21.

The match saw games that went back and forth, each team taking its lead in the points. The most impressive feat of the game came at the Aztec's 20 mark in game two. Down by three, the team went on a 10-1 run, the longest of the year, and took what seemed to be a UNLV to the other side.

When all was said and done three Aztecs walked away with career highs. Senior Katie Magnuson tallied 19 kills and registered her fifth double-double of the season with 12 digs. Sophomore and SDSU Female Student-Athlete of the Month, Zlatina Anguelova erased her previous record of 18 kills with a new 24 mark and finished the night with a .333 clip. Fellow sophomore Megan Schauermann nailed a career-high 10 kills and went error-free on the night with a .556 hitting percentage.

The Aztecs will travel to Utah next week for a weekend split beginning at BYU on Friday at 7 p.m. and continuing on to Utah on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match. The next home game for the Aztecs will be a tough one when they face Hawaii at Cox Arena on Oct. 17th at 7 p.m.
