San Diego - Pepperdine got a hat trick from junior forward Kristi Bissonette and defeated San Diego State, 3-1, at the SDSU Sports Deck Friday afternoon.
With the win, Pepperdine remains undefeated at 6-0-3 and is off to its longest unbeaten streak to begin a season in school history. The loss dropped the Aztecs to 4-6-0 on the year and extended SDSU's current losing streak to four games.
The Waves, ranked 29th in this week's NSCAA poll, opened the scoring at the 23:25 mark. Bissonette took a ball on the left side about 35 yards from goal, dribbled forward, and unleashed a shot from 25 yards that went over Aztec keeper Linnea Quinones into the upper right corner of the net.
The Pepperdine forward made her presence known again some five minute later, taking a through pass from an overlapping Ann Desmond and slotting the ball into the lower right corner from 12 yards.
San Diego State pulled a goal back in the 39th minute on a set play. Fay deLeon's corner kick from the left side went to the far post where an unmarked Arinda Alvarez headed home. It was the freshman's first goal of the season and narrowed Pepperdine's lead to 2-1 at the break.
However, Bissonette had the final word, finishing off a Pepperdine move in the 68th minute to cap off her three-goal performance. Ali Pavoni made a run down the right and slipped the ball into the box to teammate Jenna Ainsworth, Ainsworth was able to roll the ball across the face of the goal and Bissonette made no mistake with her shot from six yards.
SDSU's Quinones was called upon to make five saves on the day compared to three by Wave keeper Lindsey Brouilette. With the five saves, Quinones moves into the number-three position on the SDSU career saves list.
The Aztecs continue their current four-game homestand when they face 25th-ranked USC on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the SDSU Sports Deck. That contest is the first half of a doubleheader that will have the Aztec men taking on 23rd-ranked UCLA at 3:00 p.m.
