FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State men's golf team had four individuals finish in the top 16 as the squad combined to record a 1-under par 575 to close out the first two rounds at the Fresno Lexus Classic in second place.
The host school, Fresno State, was the only other team to break par during the opening day of play, carding a team total of 16-under 560 to lead the 16-team field.
Brandon Kearney and Scott Henderson were the Aztecs top finishers with each player shooting even-par totals of 144 and finishing tied for 11th. John Lieber and Mark Warman were just one shot behind, carding a pair of 145s and tying for 16th.
Linus Nilsson, currently in 49th and Chris Galeski, who closed out the first two rounds tied for 55th, both finished back in the pack but contributed scoring rounds to the Aztecs' team total.
Fresno State had three players finish in the top seven, including Nick Watney, who fired a scalding second-round 9-under 63 and leads all individuals at 10-under 134.
Play at the 39th Annual Fresno Lexus Golf Classic concludes with Saturday's third and final round from the Sunnyside Country Club.
