KAPOLEI, Hawaii - The San Diego State women's golf team carded its best round of the Rainbow Wahine Fall Golf Classic Wednesday, shooting a combined 308. But it wasn't enough to lift the Aztecs out of 10th place as SDSU completed the tournament with a three-round total of 934.
New Mexico took the team title, recording the only even-par score of the two-day event (288) to finish at 20-over 884. Arizona (905) and California (911) rounded out the top three spots.
Individually, no golfer was able to complete the three rounds below par, including Arizona's Lorena Ochoa, who finished at 2-over par 218 to take medalist honors.
The Aztecs were led by senior Asa Jankler, who was competing in her first tournament off the fall and used a final-round 5-over 77 to climb three spots to finish in 27th at 16-over 232. However it was sophomore Sandy Kim who made the day's biggest jump for SDSU, vaulting 18 spots on the heels of a third-round 2-over 74 to place 36th with a final score of 18-over 234. Sophomore Shayna Miyajima and freshman Frieda Englund finished up at 20-over 236 to tie for 46th, while senior Heather Rollo placed 75th with a final score of 28-over 244.
The Rainbow Wahine Fall Golf Classic is the final tournament of the fall for the San Diego State women. The Aztecs open their spring schedule Feb. 18-19, when SDSU hosts the Aztec Invitational at the San Marcos Country Club.
