Fall Finale
The San Diego State women's golf team puts the wraps on the 2001 fall season next week when the Aztecs travel to Hawaii for the Wahine Fall Classic. The two-day, 54-hole event will be held at the Kapolei Golf Course (Par 72, 5,900 yards), located on Oahu's eastern shore. The tournament's first two rounds are slated for Monday, Oct. 30, with the third and final round scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 31. Both days will feature 7:30 a.m. (HT) shotgun starts.

SDSU Scorecard
Asa Jankler will be the only 2001 first-time competitor at the Wahine Fall Classic, as four of the five Aztecs heading to Hawaii have played in at least one tournament this fall.

The Field
In addition to San Diego State and host school Hawaii, the 19-team field for the Wahine Fall Classic includes Arizona, Baylor, BYU, California, Central Florida, Colorado, Denver, Idaho, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Oregon, Oregon State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Southern Illinois, UC Riverside, UNLV. Of the 19 teams, eight are ranked in this week's Golfweek Top-50, including No. 13 Arizona, which is the highest ranked team in the field.

Aztecs Against The Field
San Diego State has already faced six of the 19 teams scheduled to compete at the Wahine Fall Classic - Baylor, BYU, Colorado, Denver, Hawaii, San Jose State. The Aztecs are 1-5 versus those six teams thus far, with the lone win coming over Hawaii at the Pioneer Intercollegiate.

Back Spin: Last Year's Wahine Classic
Asa Jankler finished 14th, but no other Aztec was able to crack the top 50 as San Diego State combined to shoot a three-round total of 954 to finish 14th of 15 teams at 2000 Wahine Fall Classic. UCLA, which had two players finish in the top five, carded a combined 899 to take the team title. Washington's Elisha Au shot 5-over 221 to win medalist honors.

Last Time Out: 10th at New Mexico State
Heather Rollo finished 25th and Shayna Miyajima placed 33rd as SDSU shot a combined 929 to close out the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate in 10th place. Baylor (870) edged Arizona State in a one-hole playoff to take the team title. ASU's Jamin Kang (11-under 205) was the tournament's medalist.

Homecoming Queen
Next week's Wahine Fall Classic will be a homecoming of sorts for San Diego State sophomore Shayna Miyajima. Miyajima, who enters the tournament as the Aztecs' leader in stroke average, grew up in Wailuki on the nearby island of Maui.

Rollo Starts To Roll
After a disappointing 14-over 156 outing in Denver, senior Heather Rollo appears to be headed back in the right direction. Rollo fired a three-round total of 11-over 227 at New Mexico State for the third-best three-round score of her collegiate career. Last season, Rollo registered four top-10 finishes, and posted the Mountain West's ninth-best stroke average (77.6).

Young And Younger
San Diego State's lineup will be sporting a youthful hue at next week's Wahine Fall Classic as two sophomores and a freshman team up with a pair of seniors for the Aztecs. In fact, by the time fall play concludes, two players from each class will have played at least two round of competitive golf.

Aztec Coaching Staff
San Diego State will be led by head coach Neale Stoner and assistant coach Felicia Brown in 2001-2002 following the retirement of long-time head coach Diana Falar. Stoner coached the Aztec men from 1993-2000, leading the Aztecs to four NCAA regionals and a national championship appearance. Brown, who played at the University of Arizona and later professionally on the Players West Golf Tour, is in her first season on the Mesa.
