Women's Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision At Air Force

Colorado Springs, CO - Air Force scored the three goals in the second half for a 3-0 victory over San Diego State, Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Academy's Cadet Soccer Stadium.

With the loss, SDSU fell to 5-9-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the MWC. The win improved Air Force to 7-7-1 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons have moved into a tie for first place in the league with Brigham Young which lost 1-0 at home to New Mexico last Friday.

After a scoreless first half, the Falcons struck quickly after the intermission. Junior Wendy Emminger's unassisted goal at 49:58 was the eventual game-winner. Emminger dribbled down the left wing and fired a shot just inside the far post. Nine minutes later, senior Beth Boyer gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Freshman Jennifer Ford gave Boyer a pass 20 yards out and Boyer blasted a shot to the top right corner in the 58th minute.

Freshman Jennifer Rowland gave the Falcons an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. Julie Honeycutt gave Rowland a pass near the right post five yards out and Rowland punched in her sixth goal of the season.

The Falcons out-shot the Aztecs, 18-11 overall and 7-3 on goal. Aztec goalkeeper Linnea Quinones made three saves while allowing two goals in 65 minutes. She was replaced by Erin Haentjens, who played 25 minutes and made one save while allowing one goal. Air Force goalie Jennifer Monson posted her first shutout of the season as she made three saves.

San Diego State's next game will see the Aztecs travel to New Mexico next Sunday, Oct. 28, for a 1:00 p.m. (MDT) kickoff.
