SDSU Rowers Compete In Prestigious Event

BOSTON - The San Diego State women's rowing team got its 2001-02 season underway Sunday at the 37th-annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. The two-day event is one of the world's largest fall regattas with hundreds of teams competing.

The Aztecs competed in the championship-eight event, finishing the three-mile course in 18:16.46. The time ranked them 44th out of a 53-team field that included some tough competitors.

The USRowing team took the event's top spot with a time of 16:01.69, followed by last year's event winner, Princeton (16:10.84) and the London Training Center (16:17.759). Ohio State (16:30.61), Yale (16:34.85), Michigan (16:37.929), two-time NCAA national champion Brown (16:51.029) and Southern California (16:52.57) rounded out the top 10

The Aztecs return to action next weekend when they compete at the Head of the American in Sacramento on Saturday and the Head of the Estuary in Oakland on Sunday.
