SDSU Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss to No. 14 BYU

PROVO, Utah - Despite outhitting and outscoring 14th-ranked BYU, the San Diego State volleyball team lost in four tonight at the Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah. The loss drops the team to 10-5 and 4-2 in conference. The Aztecs were beat 27-30, 30-15, 28-30, 29-31.

The Aztecs outhit the Cougars .224 to .165 and outscored the team by eight points, but couldn't take the win. Sophomore Zlatina Anguelova dominated with a match-high 23 kills and claimed a double-double with 11 digs. Anguelova finished the night with two service aces, eight block assists and one solo. Junior Nicole Akporiaye and sophomore Aspen McPartland both tallied double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Senior Katie Magnuson and sophomore Robyn Gregg registered double-digit digs with 14 each. Gregg, the Aztecs ace from the serving line, was ace-free for the first time this season, but scored on a career-high two kills, while Magnuson went to the line with tying her career high with three aces.

The Aztecs wrapped up the night with 64 kills and 13 total team blocks versus BYU's 67 kills and 14 total team blocks.

San Diego State closes out its weekend road trip with a match at No. 19 Utah tomorrow at 7 p.m., and will return home to face Hawaii at Cox Arena on Wed., at 7 p.m.
