San Diego State Men's Basketball Opens Basketball Practice

Oct. 13, 2001

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's basketball team opened the 2001-02 season with two practices on Saturday at Cox Arena.

The Aztecs held a two and one-half hour practice at 8 a.m. on the first day that the NCAA permitted team practice. San Diego State also had an afternoon workout of more than an hour in front of more than 400 fans during Select-A-Seat festivities.

The event gave fans an opportunity to watch coach Steve Fisher and the men's team practice as well as get autographs from both the men's and women's basketball teams and purchase season tickets.

Of the 17 players on the roster, 16 were able to practice on Saturday. Junior guard Deandre Moore was held out of practice due to shin splints. Moore, who rode a stationary bike during practice, is expected to miss the first week of drills.

San Diego State's first exhibition game is scheduled for Nov. 1 against EA Sports at Cox Arena. The Aztecs will open the season for real when they travel to Lubbock, Texas, to play in the Red Raider Classic on Nov. 16-17.
