SAN DIEGO - San Diego State posted a perfect 7-0 in the top two flights of singles and doubles competition on Saturday at the 2001 San Diego State Fall Classic, guaranteeing the champions of both singles and doubles Flight A would be Aztecs.
San Diego State's Katja Karrento advanced passed 66th-ranked Selia Mathew of Alabama by injury default and teammate Silvia Tornier defeated San Diego's Heather Polumbus 6-2, 6-3 to set up an all-Aztec final tomorrow in Flight A singles.
The Aztecs ensured they would take the top doubles prize when top-seed Tornier and Lindsey Hedberg, ranked 29th nationally, cruised to an 8-1 semifinal victory and fellow Aztecs' Katey Becker and Karrento were 8-6 winners in the other semifinal.
Both Becker and Hedberg, won semifinal singles matches in Flight B and will face one another in the consolation championship of the flight.
The San Diego State Fall Classic concludes on Sunday at the SDSU Courts. Matches begin at 8 a.m.
