Aztecs Suffer First Loss

NEW ORLEANS - The San Diego State women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season to the Mustangs from SMU, 3-1 at the Kathy Trosclair Tournament in New Orleans. The Aztecs will wrap up the tournament with an 8 p.m. game against Tulane.

SDSU kept it close in the first game but couldn't hold on as SMU won 31-29. The Aztecs regrouped and took the second game 30-21, but it wasn't enough, as the Mustangs claimed games three and four, 30-23 and 30-19, respectively

Senior Katie Magnuson and sophomore Aspen McPartland both registered double-doubles in the match. Magnuson tallied 10 kills and a career-high 22 digs, while McPartland claimed 14 kills and 11 digs to lead the team with a .345 hitting percentage.

McPartland, along with Zlatina Anguelova, Rochelle Currier and Robyn Gregg made up the eight aces in the match with two each, while Melissa Wright tallied 51 assists against the Mustangs.

The Aztecs tallied 59 kills for a .157 hitting percentage versus SMU's 64 kills and .236.
