School Record Not Enough In SDSU Men's Soccer Loss

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego men's soccer team scored the fastest goal in program history Thursday, only to see UC Santa Barbara score three unanswered goals and take the match, 3-1.

SDSU (0-2-1) got on the board just 15 seconds into the match on a breakaway goal by junior Enrique Tovar. Freshman Patrick Strait and sophomore Ryan Curtis assisted on the score.

UCSB (3-0) quickly tied things with a goal at 6:09 by Neil Jones, and took the lead when Rob Friend found the net at 35:06. The Gauchos Jaime Abruz chipped in an insurance goal at 49:00 to end the day's scoring.

SDSU goalkeeper Tim Edwards spent all 90 minutes in goal earning four saves and the loss. UCSB's Dan Kennedy had one save in the winning effort.

The Aztecs will take the weekend off from competition, returning to action when they host Hofstra on Sept. 14 and Albany on Sept. 16 in the USD/SDSU Tournament. Both matches will be held at the Sports Deck and start at 4 p.m.
