Sept. 30, 2001

Stats

SAN DIEGO - A goal by junior Enrique Tovar with five seconds remaining in the first overtime period lifted the San Diego State men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Brown Sunday at the SDSU Sports Deck.

Tovar's goal, his fourth of the season, came off a free kick opportunity at the 104:55 mark. Freshman Anthony Zoric took the free kick leading Tovar to the net.

SDSU (3-4-1) was the first to score in the contest, when sophomore Kevin Sapanli knocked in his fourth goal of the year off a double assist from freshmen Eric Wohl and Patrick Strait just 9:59 into the contest.

The Aztecs maintained the shutout until early in the second half when Brown (2-4-0) tied the contest on a goal by senior Pablo Quintanilla.

Sunday's match marked the second-straight victory for the Aztecs and provided junior goalkeeper Brian Barnes, who spent the entire match in goal, with his second win of the year.

SDSU continues a six-game homestand Thursday with a 4 p.m. match against Christian Heritage. The Aztecs and Hawks meet earlier in the month, with SDSU winning the contest, 3-0.
