Colorado State Hands Volleyball First Conference Loss

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State (8-3, 2-1 MWC) women's volleyball team fell victim to No. 10 Colorado State (9-0, 1-0 MWC) in a 3-0 loss tonight at Peterson Gym. The Aztecs were swept with games of 30-20, 30-25 and 30-27.

The Rams immediately took control of the first game, leaving SDSU shocked with a 30-20 loss, the second worst loss of the season. The Aztecs regrouped and came back strong, tying it at five and then taking the lead for the majority of the game. The Rams kept it close and then took control on the 25th point, outscoring the Aztecs 5-1 for a win in game two. SDSU kept it close in game three with 13 kills, seven from senior Katie Magnuson, to pull within one point at 26-27. CSU's Soraya Santos put the match away with six kills to move the Rams to a 9-0 overall record and their first conference win.

The Aztecs were led by senior Katie Magnuson with 11 kills, three digs and a .391 hitting percentage. Magnuson was the only Aztec with double-digit kills, but was followed by sophomore Zlatina Anguelova with eight kills, four digs and a .261 hitting percentage.

The Rams finished the match with three players tallying double-digit kills and one double-double. Courtney Cox led Colorado State with 15 kills followed by Angela Knopf, who went error-free on the night with 12 kills, a .706 clip and clinched her double-double with 10 digs. Soraya Santos was third with 13 kills and a .688 percentage.

The Aztecs look to Sunday when they take on the Cowgirls of Wyoming at Peterson Gym at 1 p.m.
