SDSU Women's Golf Takes Fifth at Pioneer Intercollegiate

DENVER - Buoyed by top-10 finishes by Sandy Kim and Shayna Miyajima, the San Diego State women's golf team moved up one spot during Tuesday's second round to place fifth at the Pioneer Highlands Ranch Intercollegiate. The Aztecs, who entered the second day of play tied for sixth, combined to shoot a second-round total of 307 to finish at 34-over 610, 11 strokes behind tournament champion and host school Denver.

The Pioneers, led by individual medalist Kelly Schaub's two-round total of 6-under par 138, moved up from third to first and captured the team title with a score of 23-over 599. Brigham Young finished up in second place at 28-over 604, while first-round leader Colorado State slipped to third after closing out the tournament at 30-over 606.

Kim and Miyajima entered the final round tied for 10th but posted some of the better scores of the day. Kim, who carded a 1-over par 73 Tuesday, finished tied for fourth overall at 3-over 147, while Miyajima rose to sixth, one stoke behind Kim.

Heather Rollo, who was tied for 20th, slipped to 34th after her final round 80. Brittany Tulao and Frieda Englund also shot final-round 80s, to place 51st and 63rd, respectively.

The San Diego State women's golf team returns to action on Oct. 8-10 when the squad travels to Las Cruces, N.M., for the Aggie Invitational.
