SDSU Men's Soccer Loses Close Match With Gonzaga

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The San Diego State men's soccer team lost to Gonzaga, 3-2, Friday in the first match of the Diadora Classic held on the Oregon State campus.

Gonzaga (2-2-0) jumped to an early, 2-0, lead with goals at 18:59 and 20:23. SDSU (1-3-1) pulled within a goal when sophomore Kevin Sapanli found the net off a center pass by freshman Eric Wohl at the 47:01 mark.

The Bulldogs pushed things out of reach with another score at 58:56. Sophomore Ryan Curtis brought the Aztecs within a point at 85:26, but the day's scoring would end there.

SDSU junior goalkeeper Brian Barnes, who started for the second-straight match following a foot injury recorded three saves and allowed two goals. He was replaced by senior Tim Edwards in the 58th minute. Edwards had two saves on the afternoon.

The Aztecs will meet tournament host Oregon State Sunday at 2 p.m.
