SAN DIEGO - Wednesday provided the San Diego State men's soccer team with its first road match of the year, it also provided the team with its first victory of the season, a 3-0 defeat of Christian Heritage.
SDSU (1-2-1) got on the board five minutes into the match thanks to a goal by sophomore Ryan Curtis. Curtis' score was assisted by senior Aaron Frimkess.
Christian Heritage (2-4) kept the Aztec offense under control until sophomore Kevin Sapanli found the net early into the second half. Junior Enrique Tovar would provide an insurance goal by way of a penalty kick in the 70th minute.
Goalkeepers Brian Barnes and Tim Edwards each spent a half in goal picking up the win and sharing the shutout.
The match was played on the Christian Heritage campus and served as the first of a home-and-home series between the Hawks and Aztecs. The two teams next meet on Oct. 4 at SDSU.
SDSU travels to Oregon tomorrow to compete against Gonzaga on Friday and Oregon State Sunday in the Diadora Classic.
