San Diego State-Ohio State Football Game Rescheduled

Sept. 11, 2001

SAN DIEGO - In the wake of Tuesday's national tragedy, Saturday's scheduled football game between San Diego State and Ohio State will be played on Oct. 20th in Columbus. Kickoff time is still to be determined.

San Diego State executive director of athletics Rick Bay and Ohio State athletics director Andy Geiger reached the decision late Tuesday afternoon after several phone conversations throughout the day.

"We feel that for these two institutions, this is the right decision at this time," said Bay, who previously served as athletic director at Ohio State. "We feel fortunate to have an alternative due to the fact that both universities had an open date on Oct. 20th."

San Diego State and Mountain West Conference officials are still weighing options for other teams this weekend. The men's and women's soccer teams, along with the cross country team, were scheduled to host events this weekend. The women's volleyball team is scheduled to compete in the Buckeye Classic, beginning Friday, also in Columbus.

San Diego State's football squad will return to action on Sept. 22nd on the road at defending league champion Colorado State on ABC television.

San Diego State will practice Wednesday and Thursday before taking off Friday and Saturday.
