San Diego - Senior forward Nicole Findlay has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week following the Aztecs' two victories last weekend at the Montana Diadora Cup. This is the second MWC player of the week honor of her Aztec career as she won the award after the first week of the 2000 season.
Findlay, a product of Fairfield, Calif., scored three goals in two matches this past weekend. In the season-opening 3-0 win at Montana on Friday, she netted the first goal of the game in the 18th minute. She then notched a pair of goals in SDSU's 3-0 win over Eastern Washington on Sunday. Again, her first goal of the game against EWU came in the 18th minute.
San Diego State is currently 2-0 on the year and opened its season with back-to-back shutout wins for the first time since 1993.
The Aztecs open their 2001 home season when they host the SDSU Invitational next weekend. Play begins on Friday (Sept. 7) when San Diego State takes on South Carolina at 1:00 p.m. followed by UNLV and Kansas at 3:30 p.m.
