SAN DIEGO - Two 15-minute, sudden-death overtime periods were not enough Sunday as the San Diego State men's soccer team tied Notre Dame de Namur University, 1-1. SDSU, which played in its second overtime match to start the season, fell to 0-1-1 on the year.

"A major concern going into the season was producing goals," said SDSU head coach Lev Kirshner. "This is going to be one of those seasons where we can take Santa Clara to overtime or take Notre Dame de Namur to overtime and have a hard time winning the match."

The Aztecs got on the board first when freshman Eric Wohl found the net at 43:00. Wohl's goal came off a pass from freshman Paul Szefler.

Notre Dame de Namur (2-0-1) tied things at 74:30 when Carlos Olmedo headed in a pass from Nicholas Tiggs.

SDSU goalkeeper Tim Edwards spent the entire match in goal, earning four saves. Edwards got the starting nod over Brian Barnes who is nursing a foot injury.

"It's nice to see that we can interchange our keepers and not have to worry about any drop off in quality," said Kirshner. "I also think our back line was solid today and that comes from experience and depth."

Aztec sophomore Kevin Sapanli led all players with six shots. Senior Enrique Tovar, who did not play in the squad's season opener, took four shots.

The Aztecs return to action Thursday with a 4 p.m. match against UC Santa Barbara. All home matches are played at the SDSU Sports Deck.
