SDSU Track and Field Athletes Earn Academic Honors

SAN DIEGO - The Mountain West Conference has named 10 San Diego State women's track and field athletes to its 2001 all-academic team.

Honorees for the Aztecs included senior Maria Moreno, juniors Kylie Edwards, Julianne Ghilglieri and Amanda Vielbaum, sophomores Patricia Gutierrez and Jennifer Stakiw and freshmen Julie Amster, Allison Brown, Angie Fitzpatrick and Jillitta Griffin. Edwards and Stakiw are two-time recipients of the league award.

Stakiw had the highest grade-point average of the group with a 3.62, followed by Vielbaum with a 3.55.

To be elgible for selection to the academic team, a student athlete must have completed at least one academic term at their school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and be a significant contributor to the team.
