Freshmen Rielly Embrey and Anthony Gwynn, both graduates of Poway High School, along with sophomore transfer Cody Haven have been named to the 2001 Mountain West Conference Academic All-Conference squad.
Embrey (3.96 gpa) is a first baseman who appeared in 32 of the Aztecs' 60 games this past season. He batted .298 with 12 runs scored and nine runs batted in.
Gwynn (3.01 gpa) was the team's starter in center field. In his first season as an Aztec, he hit .313 and led the team in runs scored (48) and triples (4), He also stole 19 bases and contributed 23 RBI.
Haven (3.05 gpa) , a transfer from Western Oregon, played first base and hit .350 with nine doubles and 21 runs batted in.
