Aztecs Duo Struts Its Stuff at USA Track & Field Championships

June 24, 2001

EUGENE, Ore. - Aja Frary took seventh in the heptathlon and Daveetta Shepherd ran her best wind-legal time ever in the 100-meter hurdles as the San Diego State duo more than held their own over the weekend at the 2001 USA Track & Field Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field.

Frary, who finished third in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships earlier this month, scored 5,680 points -- her second-best total ever.

As expected, she was at her best in the sprints and long jump, placing third in the 200 meters, third in the long jump and fourth in the 800 meters. In fact, Frary's 200 time of 24.11 was a personal-best.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Shepherd finished fifth in her preliminary head but clocked the seventh-fastest time of the day, opened the competition with a career-best time of 13.09.

However, the SDSU junior was unable to finish her semifinal heat and failed to reach the event finals.
