STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 8 San Diego State women's water polo team defeated Cal Baptist, 10-3, and UC Davis, 8-7, today at the National Collegiate Select Championships held at Pacific.
The Aztecs opened up with a 7-0 lead in the first three periods then cruised to a 10-3 victory over Cal Baptist. The Aztecs were led by Casey Finnegan who had three goals, in total seven Aztecs scored in the contest.
San Diego State advanced to the first place match with an 8-7 win over UC Davis. The Aztecs fell behind 2-0 in the opening period, then exploded with five goals in the second to lead 5-4 at the half. The two teams traded goals in the third and again in the opening minutes of the fourth, but Aztec goalie Heather Stiles came up with six of her eight saves in the final two periods to preserve the win, The Aztecs were led by Lisa Swain and Kelly Falcone, who each had two goals, while the Aggies got two goals from Cat Bell, Anne Harter, and Kim Parker.
The Aztecs will face off against No. 9 UC Santa Barbara for the title, Sunday at 1:45 p.m.
