Complete Texas Invitational Results
AUSTIN, Texas - San Diego State junior Kylie Edwards won the 800 meters, sophomore Alicia Stewart placed third in the 3000 meters and senior Aimee Crabtree and junior Tricia Gutierrez went 2-3 in the pole vault, but the big news for the Aztecs at Saturday's Texas Invitational was made in the 100-meter hurdles, where junior Daveetta Shepherd and Marisa Robinson both posted NCAA qualifying times.
Shepherd, who placed sixth overall and but second among collegiate entrants, ran a season-best time of 13.42, her second NCAA provisional qualifying mark in as many weeks and the sixth-fastest fastest time in SDSU history. Robinson, who finished ninth, also qualified for nationals with her season-best time of 13.52, the ninth-fastest in SDSU history.
Other Aztecs clocking season bests included freshman Jillita Griffin in the 200 meters (25.79), sophomore Jennifer Stakiw in the 800 meters (2:13.10) and freshman Chanel Day in the 100 hurdles (14.36).
In the field events, senior Aja Frary cleared 19-02.75 to place third in the long jump, while senior Marisa Taylor took seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 38-11.00.
The balance of San Diego State's women's track and field team will be in action on Sunday, when the squad travels to UC Irvine for the seventh-annual Steve Scott Invitational. Field events begin at 8:30 a.m., with the first running event scheduled for 9:20 a.m.
